It has been a month since the San Antonio Spurs clinched a victory. In contrast, those close to Victor Wembanyama claim that it’s rare to catch him without a book in his grasp for even half an hour. As per a report by Tom Orsborn of the San Antonio Express-News, Wembanyama has a penchant for fantasy novels and has read so many that he’s unable to tally them anymore.
According to his teammates, Wembanyama is often spotted carrying a large book during their away games. The size of the book is so enormous that Julian Champagnie could only hold it with his thumb and forefinger inches apart. Tre Jones also added that Wembanyama isn’t just flipping through the pages, he’s actually reading them as he progresses through the book.
Victor Wembanyama has a fondness for fantasy books, which he deems as his top literary genre. Among his favorite authors is Brandon Sanderson, who hails from Lincoln, Nebraska and gained recognition for his works such as the “Mistborn” series. Sanderson also earned acclaim for completing the popular and best-selling fantasy series “The Wheel of Time,” which was originally authored by Robert Jordan. Tom Orsborn highlights Wembanyama’s reading preferences.
In today’s era, most young NBA players spend their leisure time either on their phones or playing video games. However, the seven-foot-five French basketball sensation stands out from the norm. He revealed that staring at a TV screen for too long tends to strain his eyes. It may come as no surprise that the projected No. 1 overall pick in 2023 has been an avid reader for quite some time. His former school principal, Barbara Martin, attested to this fact and mentioned that Wembanyama has a particular fondness for science fiction books. Among his favorites are novels by Sanderson, and he has even read The Star Wars.
